Harriger Awarded Farm Show Scholarship
1/13/2010

Jeremy Harriger, 19, of Brookville, was named a 2010 Farm Show Scholarship winner during ceremonies held Jan. 12 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show.

In recognizing Harriger’s accomplishment, Rep. Sam Smith noted his active involvement with local agricultural clubs and activities, as well as the leadership roles he’s assumed.  “Jeremy is an outstanding and humble young man whose hard work is a tribute to his family and his community,” Smith said.  “He is very deserving of this award and I wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Harriger is currently a sophomore at Mount Aloysius College where he is studying radiology and medical imaging.  He plans to become an X-ray technician.  He has been on the Dean’s List and is a member of the Pennsylvania Society of Radiologic Technology and the Medical Imaging Club.

The Farm Show scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students who have participated in the Pennsylvania Farm Show and are enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution.  To qualify for the award, applicants must be current or previous 4-H or FFA members and must have exhibited a junior market animal at the annual event.  Awards are based on Farm Show participation, academics, financial need, 4-H or FFA involvement and community service.

As a member of Jefferson County 4-H, Jeremy presided over two livestock clubs, was on the livestock judging team, and was a member of the Jefferson County Junior Livestock Club.  He has shown hogs and lambs at the county level and the Farm Show since 2005.

Since 1994, the Farm Show has awarded 319 scholarships totaling $800,000.  Jeremy becomes the second Jefferson County resident to receive this prestigious award.
